04/05/2010 | On last 3rd May 2010, the European Union (DG Environment) launched the new call for proposals of the LIFE + Programme. As in previous years, it has three main thematic: Nature and Biodiversity; Environment Policy and Governance; and Information and Communication.
LIFE+ NATURE AND BIODIVERSITY aims to protect, conserve, restore, monitor and facilitate the functioning of natural systems, natural habitats, wild flora and fauna, with the aim of halting the loss of biodiversity, including diversity of genetic resources. EU financial support can not extend 50% of the eligible costs, but a maximum cofinancing rate of 75 % is applicable to proposals which target priority habitats/species of the Birds’ and Habitats’ Directives
LIFE+ ENVIRONMENT POLICY AND GOVERNANCE supports projects in several areas (climate change, water, air, soil, urban environment, noise, chemicals, environment and health, natural resources and waste, forests, innovation, strategic approaches); however the Commission would favour those dealing with a sustainable management and use of natural resources and waste. The rate of the Union financial support shall be a maximum of 50 % of the eligible costs.
Finally, LIFE+ INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION is directed to disseminate information and raise awareness on environmental issues, including forest fire prevention; and to provide support for accompanying measures, such as information, communication actions and campaigns, conferences and training, including training on forest fire prevention. EU financial support shall be a maximum of 50 % of the eligible costs.
Any entity registered in the Member States of the European Union being public and/or private bodies, actors and institutions can present its proposal to the national competent authorities by 1st September 2010.
